Boise's Freshest New Faces

Meggie and Louie are in a video being produced for the Boise WaterShed, the new environmental education center being built by my department here at Boise City. There is no audio yet, but look for their familiar faces @ 2:21 and 2:43!

Swimming Lessons

I just love this pool. Take a good look, it's slated for deomlition. :( The guy in the red at top is billy, Grandpa is the guy in the yellow cap standing right behind him.

This is Sofie's and Meggie's second season of swimming lessons, and Louie's first. He was a tad trepidacious at first but came thru like a champ. He even jumped off the diving board!

Meggie is practically a mermaid, so she enjoyed every millisecond in the water. Megs was the first in her group brave enough to dive in head first, her Uncle Hudson would be so proud.

Sof was a little worried about getting back into the water after a winter hiatus. But she soon warmed to it and had those instructors wrapped around her little finger! She jumped off the diving board as well -- Grandpa, billy and I were so proud of her!

St. Alphonsus Capitol Classic

Meggie and Lani ran the St. Al's Classic today. Both have run the race before, but poor Louie isn't old enough so he has to wait until next year. But hey, at least he got a balloon!

Lani KICKED BUTT, she was running so fast I almost missed getting a photo of her. I don't have the stats handy at the moment but her time and place were impressive.

And Meggie put in a valiant effort, completing her mile-long race from the Boise Depot to the Capitol Building with a savvy combination of running and walking. Jeff Galloway would be proud. :)

Memorial Day Picnic

It was a beautiful, if cold and windy, Memorial Day. The Hudson/Pruett clans met at Phillipi Park for some KFC and good times. Thanks to the ever-prepared Aunt Megan there were kites to fly and softball to play, and much fun was had by all!

Backyard Wildlife - Red Tailed Hawk Nest

While not technically in our backyard, we spotted this nesting Red Tailed Hawk just a few blocks from our house. I was able to get these shots with a new zoom lens billy got me for my birthday. When I took these he was madly working on this thesis. Man, I'll be so glad when it's over. I miss my husband.

Here is the Mama hawk eyballing the kids and me. Soon after she flies off, screeching to draw our attention away from her adorable fluffy white babies. You can see one of the babies in front of her in the first shot. There appear to be three in the shot of her flying away, but only two are visible once she's gone. (click on photos to enlarge)

Meggie's art chosen in contest

We all know how much Meggie loves to make art, so it may come as no surprise that one of her "masterpieces" was chosen to be part of the 2007-2008 Bob Wand Memorial Exhibit. Seventeen students from her school had their artwork chosen as well (one of them named Diego Rivera!).

From the School District website:
"Outstanding elementary artwork created during the school year are submitted for this juried contest. 100 top selections district-wide are displayed and chosen to travel the following school year as part of this exhibit."

We haven't seen the artwork yet, but it will be hanging in the District Services Center over the summer. We'll post a photo after we've been to the "show." :)

Freaky Frida on the Loose

For a dismaying 36 hours, Frida didn't come home. The cats spent the winter in the house and have only recently ventured outside. When we get home from work we open up the house and they roam around for awhile. One night Diego hadn't come in by 11pm but I could see him in the neighbor's yard before I went to bed, so I knew he was just adventuring. Frida is more of a homebody, so her disappearance was more troublesome. We tried not to worry too much, but it broke our hearts when Diego would wander the house meowing. Luckily she showed up after the second night away. She was meowing at the front door at 5am, but with one of her front legs threaded through her collar.

And Diego seems happy she's back too.

April Sprinkler Fun

It was a crisp spring day, but that didn't stop these two from taking advantage of this opportunity. Who can resist sprinklers freshly awoken from their long winter nap? Novelty, baby! Besides, we love water.
